Past and Present 

The Diaspora consists of almost 350 million people of African descent living outside of continental Africa.

It includes: 

i) recent immigrants from continental Africa

ii) the historic Diaspora, being those Africans who were enslaved by Europeans and forcibly brought to Europe, the Americas, and the Caribbean.

The African Union has declared the Diaspora as the 6th region of the continent and has invited the support of those people in the Diaspora who are willing to contribute to the economic and social development of the continent.
